Updates on Click2Voice Online Usability

(Archived in: Online Usability Telephony Voip)

I recently have had a few email exchanges with the developer of Click2Voice explaining the various scenarios for both domestic and international calling using this free VoIP service.

I have copied the illustrations below along with the email dialog. First a few comments. Cick2Voice individual calls are limited to 10 to 15 minutes per call. However, there currently is no limit to the number of calls per day. The acronym 'us pstn” below is an acronym for U.S. Public Switched Telephone Network. Just think of it as infrastructure. I am not sure why the word “skype” is half orange and half blue, but I left the information below exactly the way it was sent except for adding a few links.

Answers to Click2Voice Email Query:

“The significance of having a SkypeIn number (or any VOIP softphone with a U.S. phone number for that matter) is to give someone in another country a phone number in the United States. Since I provide U.S. long distance at no charge to the user, when you couple this with Click2Voice making a SkypeIn call to someone that lives in another country you see the true power and it becomes a free international call.

I am almost done a simple stick figure flash/animated gif sketch up of the connection processes and where a user sit in it. For now, here is a text layout of the significant connections involved (orange is what c2v already picks the tab up for and blue is what SkypeIn or another inbound U.S. VOIP service enables us to do.):

united states user wants to call someone in the united states:
[united states user] ---{us pstn}--- [click2voice ] ---{us pstn}--- [united states user]

united states user wants to call someone in another toll country:
[united states user] ---{us pstn}--- [click2voice] ---{us pstn}--- [skype] ---{voip}--- [international user]

international user wants to call someone in the united states:
[international user] ---{voip}--- [skype] ---{us pstn}--- [click2voice] ---{us pstn}--- [united states user]

international user wants to call someone in another toll country:
[international user] ---{voip}--- [skype] ---{us pstn}--- [click2voice] ---{us pstn}--- [skype] ---{voip}--- [international user]

Hope this Isn't too confusing or complicated.” -End
