How to Use Google GrandCentral with Gizmo

(Archived in: Nomad Resources Telephony)

In 2007 there was so much hoopla in blog posts and forums about using Google GrandCentral with Gizmo Project for inbound IP calls, I thought I would post this video that I found on YouTube. Not only does this show visually how to set up both accounts, but it gives the reasoning behind signing up for Gizmo to get a free telephone number associated with a SIP account.

According to information found on the GrandCentral website, Gizmo is the only SIP service that interfaces with GrandCentral. I find that hard to believe, but here is the quoted reference from the GC Help Center, followed by instructions on adding a Gizmo Number.

"We currently only forward calls to Gizmo Sip Numbers. Learn how to add a Gizmo forwarding number."

Adding a Gizmo Forwarding Number

To add a Gizmo forwarding number, first you need to identify your Gizmo SIP number, In your Gizmo client, got to Edit >My Profile. Your SIP number is displayed below your name, and most likely starts with 747. Enter this number as one of your fowarding phones. Here's how:
  1. Sign in to your GrandCentral account.
  2. Go to the Settings tab.
  3. Click the Add/Edit Number link right above your phones, to the right of the page.
  4. Select Gizmo in the drop-down menu.
Additionally, the video below from references the three known ways to secure (or at least request) a GrandCentral Invite. This is a fairly current all-in-one tutorial of sorts, and it seemed worthwhile to post. Digital Nomads vote for outbound calling is still MagicJack and JAJAH. Now with JAJAH Mobile and JAJAH Direct, you don't even need a computer for outbound VoIP calls. Could mean trouble for Skype...
